Enhanced PIP, what the rates mean in practice
The enhanced rate of PIP represents the higher level of support within each component. To receive enhanced daily living PIP, you need to score 12 or more points across the daily living activities. For enhanced mobility, you need 12 or more points in the mobility activities.
In 2026/27, enhanced daily living pays £108.55 per week, around £471 per month, or over £5,600 per year. Enhanced mobility pays £75.75 per week, around £328 per month, or £3,939 per year. If you qualify for both at the enhanced rate, the combined monthly payment is approximately £800 per month.
What enhanced PIP unlocks beyond the payment
Enhanced mobility PIP qualifies you for several additional supports. The Motability scheme lets eligible claimants lease a car, scooter or powered wheelchair using the enhanced mobility component as payment. Blue Badge eligibility is broadly available for enhanced mobility PIP claimants without needing a separate assessment in most areas. Vehicle Excise Duty (road tax) exemption applies for the vehicle used by an enhanced mobility PIP claimant.
Enhanced PIP (either component) usually exempts a UC household from the Benefit Cap. That can be financially significant for households with high rent or multiple children who would otherwise have their UC reduced by the cap.
