The questions on a PIP form can look simple. The difficult part is knowing what details actually matter.
The PIP Claim Pack 2026/27 walks you through all 12 activities, the reliability rules, relevant evidence and how to record your real day-to-day difficulties clearly.

PIP is based on how your health condition or disability affects specific daily-living and mobility activities.
An answer such as “I can cook” or “I can shower” might not explain the full picture if an activity cannot be completed reliably.
The pack helps you think through what actually happens in your own life and record the relevant facts.
Can you do it in a way that's unlikely to cause harm to you or anyone else, during or after the activity?
Can you complete it to an acceptable standard, not just attempt it?
Can you repeat it as often as is reasonably required?
Can you do it in no more than twice as long as someone without your condition would normally take?

Real pages from the pack: 47 printable A4 pages, designed to sit beside you while you fill in the form. Tap any page to read it full size.
A useful description is usually built from specific facts about what actually happens to you: what goes wrong, why, what help you use, how often and how long it takes.
“I struggle to prepare food.”
“Arthritis in my hands means I can't grip a knife to chop vegetables or safely lift a pan of water. Last month I dropped one and scalded my wrist. I use a perching stool and buy pre-chopped vegetables, but a simple meal still takes me over an hour, and afterwards my hands are too painful to use for the rest of the evening. This happens about five days a week.”
Example for illustration only. Your answers must describe your own circumstances.
The pack helps you understand the criteria and explain your actual circumstances accurately. It is not legal or welfare-rights advice. Free specialist help is also available from Citizens Advice and local welfare-rights services, and the pack tells you where to find it.
